If your photo does not look like the mineral - blurry, or dark, or color not right - then it will not help in the minerals identification. (Even a good photo may not help so a poor one will be useless)
- Dark room + intense light = Not allowed
- Videos are not allowed but you may provide a link to a video you feel is necessary for ID. Wetting rocks is typically unhelpful please post dry rocks or a combo
- Be kind: Be kind to other redditors. Not everyone knows how to identify or categorize rocks and minerals like a geologist, so be kind and helpful when responding to posts and correcting other user's incorrect answers

- All comments must be attempts to ID the rock/convey/request helpful info no jokes / food references : Answers only please! This is not a sub for jokes about what food the rock looks like, what else the rock looks like, "forbidden jolly rancher", no declarations of love, no unhelpful comments.

- “Fool’s Gold” “Leaverite” “JAR” “Heinikenite” “Hagstone”: Some of these terms are used by rockhounds and artifact hunters to simply say that something is undesirable to take home to collect or just that it isn’t an artifact. Others refer to Iron pyrite “Fool’s Gold” or simply a rock with a hole.
- They are useless for rock identification and can be potentially hurtful. Leaving such a comment may result in a temporary ban like with jokes. “Heinekinite” is unhelpful to ID w/o explaining you mean in scientific or easily understandable language to a layman.
- Failure to use scientific language (Applied to suspected Coprolite only): This only applies when making ID requests or responses for suspected coprolite.
