Subreddit Rules
- Don't Harass for Music Tastes: Don't like Taylor Swift but get a TS song suggestion? Don't be a scab-licker, you asked for suggestions and you're getting them :)
- Similarly, if you see a comment suggesting a song by an artist you don't like, don't bash them for it. It's a suggestion, they're not forcing music down your... earholes? Yeah, earholes.
- Limit of 1 post/playlist per 24 hours: Please do not start spamming playlists before reading the rest of the rules. Often times newcomers to the community willl submit multiple playlists at once, most or all of which are rule-breaking and don't actually fit the Subreddit.
- Posts Must Include Playlists With At Least 3 Songs (Shared Via Screenshots): Both "Weird Sentence" and "Weird Criteria" playlists must have at least 3 songs in them at the time they are posted to the Subreddit. 1 song in of itself is neither a playlist nor weird. 2 songs are typically just "1 song question 1 song answer" as far as "Sentence" playlists go, and for "Weird Criteria" border on "if I had a nickel for every time [X]..." territory. Requiring 3 songs help filter out low effort posting or the aforementioned "Question & Answer" and "2 nickels" types of posts.
- Must either be a "Weird Sentence" or "Weird Criteria" playlist: Playlists must 1. Consist of song titles that when combined, form funny/amusing sentences, OR 2. Ask for songs that adhere to "weird" objective criteria. Strive for original and unique criteria; "Songs with [specific word or phrase] in the [title/lyrics]" playlists are NOT allowed. Refer to Spotify's search function and lyrics.com to find songs for the aforementioned playlist type.
- No Opinion Based Criteria
- "Weird Criteria" playlists along the lines of "Songs that feel like X", "Songs you think are X", "Songs that sound [adjective]", etc. These are not weird, they're people's opinions and should be posted elsewhere in a Subreddit more about general music discussion. Playlist criteria that aren't objective can lead to off topic or low effort input, and the oftentimes the poster can't disprove if someone's comment DOESN'T fit the criteria, because the criteria is up to interpretation.
- No Targeted Harassment: Don't be a snot-rocket. If someone posts a playlist entitled, "Songs made for the gay community", don't reply saying something like, "Ew! Consenting adults in a loving relationship makes me feel gross!" Do you see how silly that sounds?
- Any comments that imply a distaste for a certain type of person will be removed.
- We should also avoid inviting violence on others in our playlists. For example, "Songs to play when shooting up a school" is just... wrong
- violence, please.
- No Meta Playlists: Playlists addressing or complaining about the Subreddit itself (including its posts, members and moderators) are NOT allowed. Message the mods if you have any concerns.
- No Violent Playlists, Please: We all have people we really don't like. Public figures, politicians, humans generally -- but, let's try to avoid making playlists about inciting violence on them.
- Things to maybe not post would be, "Songs to kill Hitler to", or "Songs to play when watching the Trump failed assassination", or whathaveyou
- violence please!
- This subreddit does not endorse any one political party or whatever. We are r/weirdspotifyplaylists, not r/politicalmusicismypassion.
- No Reposting within 60 Days/2 Months: Please ensure a playlist similar or identical to yours has not been posted recently, by searching our Subreddit for one or more terms relating to your playlist. If the last time one was posted is "2 months" ago or more, you can freely post it again. Otherwise, consider messaging the user who previously posted that playlist and request a link to it if one was not already provided.
- No Reposting Popular "Top of the Week/Month/Year" Playlists: Posting playlists that have already received significant attention in the past (1000+ upvotes and/or 500+ comments) is not allowed.
- This is to discourage users from looking at past "Top of the Week/Month/Year" posts and reposting them for easy engagement, and to encourage users to come up with more creative and original playlist criteria that has not been discussed as much (or never before).
- Playlists must be on Spotify or other audio-specific streaming platform.: Spotify is preferred, but playlists from any audio-specific streaming platform are allowed, including Apple Music and Tidal. YouTube/YouTube Music are not allowed as YT is a video streaming platform and has little to no barriers as to what it categorizes as "music" (unofficial, clipped, low quality songs, etc.).
- Don't Engage in Conflict: We don't want the sub devolving into chaos. Please be respectful, civil, and let the mod team deal with issues. Just think: you don't need to reply. If someone has said something offensive, please report the comment and move on. Bans will be issued if we see prolonged and excessive conflict.
