Subreddit Rules
- Don't be a jerk.: Do not be a jerk to other users. Vulgarity and hostility towards others within the community will not be tolerated. Don't be condescending to those with less experience.
- Piracy / EULA Violations not permitted. Posts about virtualizing Mac OS on non-Apple hardware = ban: Expect posts facilitating or promoting piracy to be removed, and associated users to be banned. This includes discussion of Workstation 'unlocker' or other methods used to violate the Mac OS EULA by running Mac OS on non-Apple hardware or on a Windows host. Support requests involving Mac OS on unsupported hardware (not a Mac) or software (VMware Workstation or VMware Player) will be removed, and will result in a ban. We have zero tolerance on this rule.
- Keep posts relevant to VMware products.: This is a space for discussion related to VMware products, and virtualization insofar as it relates to VMware's products. General questions about virtualization, or about non-VMware products/tools belong in other communities.
- No spam, self promotion or marketing.: Spammers will be banned. Don't submit many links to the same source; don't submit blogspam; don't submit low-quality content that's obviously just seeking clicks. Don't submit video tutorials.
- Promotions / Surveys / Giveaways require mod permission.: Any group that wants to promote a product/service, conduct a survey, or do a giveaway should contact the mods to discuss and seek permission. Activities that don't benefit community members will not be approved. Mods will not accept bribes.
- Cheaters are unwelcome.: Posting brain dumps for certification exams, leaked exam materials, or similar will result in a ban. Discussing the use of them will result in a ban. Discussion of methods to avoid virtual machine detection to facilitate 'fooling' exam software will result in a ban regardless of use case.
- If asking for help, clearly specify the VMware product and version you need assistance with.: The community can't help you unless we know what you're working with. Don't waste our time with posts requesting help that fail to specify what product and version you are working with.
- Requests for help should contain technical detail and context.: Posting vague complaints about a product won't enable the community to help you. Provide as much technical detail and context as you can when requesting help from the community. This community believes in accessibility and searchability - don't post videos or images demonstrating an issue without *fully* explaining the issue in text.
- Posts seeking help that fail to provide an adequate text description of the issue will be removed.: Keeping online, community-based tech support easily accessible to all is at risk in a world increasingly dominated by video and static image content. If you're asking for assistance, please provide a text description of the issue that meets our standards (see rules 7+8). Text descriptions help ensure that other VMware users searching the web/Reddit are able to find your post. Posts that only provide a video link or screenshot(s), or do so with only minimal text description will be removed.
- Don't discuss VMware internal/partner program affairs: r/VMware is not an appropriate venue for discussing VMware's internal affairs, business-to-business affairs involving VMware's partner programs, or the internal affairs of VMware's partners.
- No unauthorized redistribution of binaries or other software components.: r/VMware does not permit unauthorized redistribution of software. Do not post links to binaries or other software components from sources other than the official software distributor (e.g. posting a VMware product download from a 3rd party blog or Dropbox link is prohibited). Aside from being a license violation, this is a potential security risk and thus this practice is prohibited.
- No AI Slop: Suspected "AI"-generated content will be removed.
