Subreddit Rules
- Be excellent to each other.: Being disrespectful is a ban-able offense. Users are expected to treat others as though everyone has the best of intentions. Whole threads will be removed starting at the first post to not "be excellent," so if you want your comments to stay up, don't participate in anything short of excellence. As the saying goes, "Don't feed the trolls."
- Posts must be meaningful in a manner which contributes to the community and its members.
- Use flair appropriately and adhere to weekly themes.: Posts that are flared inaccurately are subject to change or deletion. Some flares references rules or days they can be used - please abide by this.
- Flair helps users of r/singing find post types that they are interested in viewing and helps maintain an organized feed.
- Teacher flair must be used appropriately - misuse will be subject to a ban.
- This also applies to Voice-Type posts now. Make sure to use the appropriate flair and upload yourself singing, or your post will be subject for removal.
- No Low Effort Posts: Here at r/singing, we encourage you to engage with others. Realize that people are here to help, but if you’re not willing to put in effort, no one else should be expected to when engaging with your posts. Low effort posts will be removed.
- We need to cultivate a sub feed that is not full of repetitive posts. the TITLE of your post must be substantive. Not just the body, but the TITLE.
- Examples of banned titles -
- "feedback pls/how can I improve"
- “am i bad/am I good"
- “Do I have potential"
- No advertising, self-promotion or social media.: Advertising and self-promotion are prohibited. This includes, advertising, outbound links, social media shares or names and watermarked content. If you have something to share, please post it in our weekly "Self Promotion Sunday" thread.
- Required information if you are looking to collaborate or seeking a singer.: Your post must answer at the following questions at minimum.
- What kind of experience/equipment level do you have and are you looking for?
- Are you looking for a singer or instrumentalist?
- Are lyrics, melodies or other creative efforts required/requested?
- Be clear and specific with what you are looking for.
- Specify what compensation will be provided, financially or otherwise. If it is just for fun then say so.
- Are you looking to collaborate on an ongoing basis or only once?
- Remain on topic
- aimless posts or spam.: Posts must be directly related to singing and intended for this community with a direct goal or purpose.
- Posts that appear to be repetitive in nature, posted in multiple subreddits or for self-promotion will be removed.
- Only upload content of yourself.: You may only post content featuring yourself. Examples of prohibited content includes singing along to the radio to another singer, sharing published music released by others or showcasing a public performance of someone else.
- No Medical advice.: While asking what at-home remedies can help with a cold are relatively innocuous, if you are having trouble with your voice or body that is beyond common-knowledge, your post will be removed. Asking for medical advice on reddit is dangerous for not just you, but other potential readers
- one here is a medical expert, nor can be verified as such.
- Content may be moderated at the discretion of the moderation team.: Content and user accounts in r/singing are subject to moderation at the discretion of the moderation team.
- This includes, but is not limited to inappropriately flared posts, posts that are not posted in the appropriate threads and accounts that have a history of promoting products, services or outbound content.
- Some posts may also be deemed inappropriate. ie; if you make proper effort to present yourself and hit the record button while driving or walking then it will probably be removed.
- Upload content directly.: Please upload content directly. Some audio sharing sites are permitted, links to social media (including Sound Cloud, Band Camp and similar sites) are not allowed. Links to Google drives and documents are also prohibited as this introduces a variety of issues.
- Open Mic & Karaoke Posts: Open Mic posts are now permitted at any time. If you’re working on a song and want to share it, please use this flair. Make sure to upload your content directly.
- Karaoke posts are now permitted. Please use the “Karaoke” flair. This entails singing karaoke or covering a full song. You may ask for general feedback, but if you’re seeking SPECIFIC feedback, you must use the “Critique & Feedback Request” flair.
- No AI content of any kind: This subreddit is for humans only.
- Voice type/range posts are relegated to Tuesdays only.: they are repetetive.
- No App Peddling
- one wants you hawking your smelly app in here
- Posts with pitch correction will be removed: pitch correction distorts the voice to a point where meaningful discussion of the vocal technique is impossible.
