Subreddit Rules
- Do not use hate speech, slurs, or personal attacks.: It is expected that users maintain a level of respect and decency while interacting with one another.
- Do not encourage suicide, self harm, or illegal or harmful activity.: Suggesting harmful activity can be either overt or implied, and we do not tolerate such behavior.
- Attempting to rationalize substance abuse and/or encouraging others to join in one's addiction falls under this rule.
- Do not encourage delusions.: This includes reinforcing shared delusions.
- Discussing delusions of a controversial nature (religious, political) are mostly acceptable so long as they do not cross the line into proselytizing.
- No medical advice.
- "playing doctor."
- This includes offering or soliciting advice to cease medication without supervision, taking drugs without a prescription, or pushing unregulated supplements.
- Medical questions are best directed to a physician, pharmacist, or other qualified professional. Experts who are qualified to give such advice will be designated by a unique flair.
- Do not perpetuate stigma.: This includes any grossly misleading or offensive statements about people with schizophrenia.
- All research, studies, or surveys require Moderator approval.: Do not solicit responses for polls, surveys, interviews, and/or studies without approval of the moderators.
- If you are looking to conduct an interview for school or a writing project (informal), [refer to our list of consenting users.](https://www.reddit.com/r/schizophrenia/wiki/writers)
- If you are a researcher looking for participants, please [consult our policy on research.](https://www.reddit.com/r/schizophrenia/wiki/rules/research/)
- Questionable activity.: We reserve the right to remove questionable posts for the sake of community safety. This means we may remove posts which do not explicitly violate any other subreddit rule.
- This includes (but is not limited to) removing questions of whether a user has schizophrenia, posts dealing with political/religious themes, excessively vulgar content, misinformation, unlabeled AI outputs, spam, and violations of Reddit's [Content Policies](https://www.redditinc.com/policies/content-policy).
- Do not diagnose anyone.
- armchair psychiatry. Even legitimate professionals cannot diagnose someone from a blurb on the internet. This includes un-diagnosing someone or questioning their diagnosis without good cause.
- For someone to receive appropriate treatment they must be seen and evaluated by qualified professionals to provide care for their condition(s).
- Do not give patronizing advice.: Do not be patronizing if giving advice, it is condescending. This is a complex disease, and getting a handle on it is not simple or easy.
- Shilling for unproven quick fixes and 'praying away' schizophrenia fall under this rule.
- Selfie Sunday: We only allow selfies to be posted on Sunday.
- Private community invites: We only allow the advertising of and sharing of invites to private chat communities within the monthly Megathread. This includes Discord or IRC servers and group chats hosted by the plethora of social media platforms.
- A new Megathread will be posted on the 1st of each month, and any advertising outside of it may be removed.
- You can easily search our Megathreads by following [this link](https://www.reddit.com/r/schizophrenia/search/?q=Discord+Megathread).
- Overly disorganized content: If your post appears to be circular, nonsensical, and/or excessively disorganized it may be removed. It is only removed when it is unlikely to result in meaningful discussion or input.
- We encourage our users to consider the reader when writing posts and comments.
- Misinformation: This applies to misinformation about schizophrenia, including (but not limited to) treatment, causes, and course of the illness. This can lead to distorted narratives which undermine the realities of schizophrenia.
- Misinformation is ever-present in mental health groups worldwide, but we do not tolerate it here. If you wish to challenge convention, credible sources are required (no YouTube, TikTok, or LLM-generated content), or they will be removed.
- Appropriate Subreddit for content: We encourage users to do their homework by reading [our FAQ](https://www.reddit.com/r/schizophrenia/comments/1gpdycf/frequently_asked_questions_rschizophrenia/) before submitting posts and making sure this subreddit is the appropriate place for their content.
- We would encourage our users to check out the sidebar and make sure there is not a more specialized community better suited for the content in question.
