- Do not say "this looks like what my skin looked like when I had scabies" or jump immediately into providing treatment advice without the qualifiers mentioned above.
- No promoting parasite or infestation related misinformation/conspiracy theories: Scabies is real. Do not use this subreddit to promote "morgellons disease," or other supposed infestations that are recognized by the medical community as a form of Ekbaum's syndrome/delusional infestation. If you believe you may have such an infestation and are concerned, you *are* allowed to post or comment with your concerns and seek advice. However, promoting these to others who are seeking medical advice is not allowed.
- Don't poison people against doctors providing a negative diagnosis: Even if you disagree with the medical advice someone has been provided with, do not poison them against medical institutions as a whole if they get negative diagnoses. If you them what you think is evidence of scabies and your doctor tells you they think you need psychiatric help, they are not saying that lightly or trying to "gaslight" you.
- Do not provide scabies advice if any doctors think you just have anxiety/have delusional infestation: If at least one medical provider believes you do not have scabies AND either believes you just have anxiety, refers you to a psychiatrist, or diagnoses you with delusional parasitosis/delusional infestation, you may not provide advice to others in the comments of posts.
- This is taken out of abundance of caution, to protect rather than punish. If you can provide dermascopic imagery of a live mite (i.e. a delta sign) from your skin (demonstrating you do in fact have scabies) you may comment.
- Avoid impossibly absolute statements regarding what you "need" to do to cure scabies: Thousands of people every year continue to be cured of scabies with a single tube of permethrin cream and half-assed cleaning efforts, which is even reflected in clinical trials. Your own experience may lead you to believe something is "necessary," but you can not say with certainty that your particular cleaning routine is the *only* way to be cured. In fact, people get cured without it. Same with saying common scabies remedies just "don't work anymore" just because they didn't work for you.
- Moderator Discretion: Extreme paranoia, anxiety, or mental health struggles: Users who exhibit strong signs that suggest that they are suffering from mental health problems instead of scabies such as specimen signs, crawling sensations, impossible claims about mites and their biology, etc. may be removed from moderator discretion. This is not a punishment, but a method of trying to stop those suffering from such issues from feeding into each other and spiraling away from reality, and to protect subreddit members with anxiety from spiraling themselves.
- No promoting the same thing repeatedly in every single post: Users who actively post on multiple threads just to link one product or treatment solution over and over, especially if they don't otherwise address the post or are promoting a specific product or service, will be muted or banned. It is okay to give people advice, but tailor it to the individual and their circumstances.
- Posts must be relevant to scabies: All content must relate to scabies in some way. This can overlap with the rule against conspiracy theories.
- No advertising without prior moderator approval: Advertising is not allowed on the subreddit without prior approval. If you wish to advertise on this subreddit, message the moderators before posting or you will be permanently banned.
- No sexually explicit photos: You can not diagnose scabies just from a picture of a rash. Please do not share your genitals on the internet, the reddit filters will probably just remove it, and you can just as easily convey the same amount of information without resorting to such measures just by describing your issues.
