Subreddit Rules
- Be polite!: Constructive criticism is okay (and encouraged), but being a jerk is not. This includes personal attacks directed at another redditor in this sub, which are severely frowned upon and will be sanctioned as appropriate.
- Similarly, lewd comments, as well as inappropriate comments relating to sex, gender, race, ethnicity, nationality, and religion are prohibited. Violations will result in comment removal and sanctions (including bans) as determined at the discretion of the moderation team.**
- If it's not your work, credit the builder.: Linking to other people's work is okay, but make sure it doesn't look like you're claiming it as your own. Fraudulent postings will be deleted.
- Crediting should also be done for x-posts from other subreddits
- Use an image hosting service, and not Facebook.: imgur.com is encouraged. Reddit's own image hosting is just fine. Flickr is okay. Others are fine too. Directly linking to images from other sites (like blogs or news sites) is discouraged-rehost images on Imgur when possible (but include a link to the original source in a comment).
- Don't link to Facebook albums at all.
- In addition, if you are posting lots of images, please use an album or a single post. [We have a tutorial](https://www.reddit.com/r/modelmakers/wiki/imgur) on how to make one
- Don't spam your blog, videos, or commercial products, or discord: While it is always encouraged to share your work, refrain from blog, youtube, discord, or commercial spam. It is acceptable to share from your model making blog, so long as the blog posts share **your builds only**. Excessive blogspam will result in posts being removed, and a possible ban from submitting content. Commercial postings should be discussed with the moderation team.
- If the moderators feel repeated postings constitute spam, posts may be removed without warning.
- No pure self-promotion: If all you post on here are links to your blog, YT channel, discord, Instagram, TikTok or product and you don't take part in any discussions or threads (outside your own), you and your channel will be banned from r/modelmakers. We'll ask nicely once, and if you continue we will delete all of your posts and ban you from the sub.
- If you are an active member of the community, occasional self-promotion is fine
- Here are Reddit's rules for self-promotion: https://www.reddit.com/wiki/selfpromotion
- BOX PICS/HAUL POSTS must include the contents!: Yeah, new kits are cool and stuff, but we can look at pictures of boxes on the internet anywhere. Show us the contents! Include pictures of what's inside the box, not just the box art.
- A post with more than one kit doesn't require sprue shots of every kit; just one.
- The exception here is for rare/collectible kits that you don't plan on opening and building.
- In case you don't know how; [We made a guide for using Imgur for hosting photo albums](https://www.reddit.com/r/modelmakers/wiki/imgur).
- Stay on-topic.: Plastic, resin, balsa, paper and wooden kits are on-topic. If you build it and paint it, it's probably on-topic. 3D printed models are OK if painted and finished.
- The following are off-topic:
- 3D virtual models incl AI generated
- Wooden or foam slot-together objects (Ugears and similar )
- Metal Earth kits (r/metalearth )
- Lego builds (r/lego & r/AFOL )
- Building toy builds
- Memes (r/scalemodelmemes)
- Sales, surveys (without mod approval)
- Other off-topic posts, as determined by the mods
- Post stash pics in the monthly stash thread.: There's a monthly stash thread. Use it!
- No recasters or intellectual property theft.: Don't link to recasters or other intellectual property theft, including scans of books that are still in print or downloadable movies.
- No swastika threads or political arguments - also see sticky regarding Ukraine (sort by "Hot"): Political arguments in threads, **especially Nazi apologism**, is explicitly forbidden (including on "historical accuracy"). Swastika decals threads and legality or availability of Nazi symbols in certain countries are also explicitly forbidden. Interpretation of this rule is up to the mods.
- Violation will result in a short-term ban. Repeated violations will result in a permanent ban
- warnings will be given.
- Pictures of model kits with swastikas on them are **allowed** to be posted
- No Sabaton lyrics or encouragement of Sabaton lyric chains of any kind.: Sabaton lyrics will be removed on sight without notice. Interpretation of this rule is up to the mods.
- The rule is in place due to people (not just the bot) spamming Sabaton lyrics. The spam contributes nothing to the thread and is quite annoying. People who do this (yes, you) are the reason why this is explicitly banned here.
- Sending abusive messages to the moderation team complaining about this rule (or its enforcement) will not be tolerated, and will result in a temporary or permanent ban.
- No discord promotion: We will not endorse nor partner with anyone running a discord. Promotion of the same is off-topic, and will be automatically or otherwise removed.
- No frequent reposting to "bump" threads, lots of single question threads, or "shop for me" threads: Reposting to "bump" a thread up is discouraged, as is posting numerous single question threads. Those kinds of questions should and are better asked in the weekly FAQ.
- This sub also isn't for asking others to find a kit for a certain price or to provide shopping lists.
- Persistent behavior as described above will be removed at the discretion of the moderators (including without warning), and/or directed to the Weekly FAQ.
- A note on potentially NSFW postings (nudity, gore, and similar):: Posts featuring nude figurines, excessive gore, or anything else the mods consider inappropriate may be removed. Interpretation of this rule is up to the discretion of the moderation team.
- Please also be aware that Reddit has a NSFW filter that works without our input, so if your subject has potentially NSFW subject matter, please tag it accordingly.
- Do not use AI generated backgrounds, special effects, animations, and similar: There is already enough AI generated slop on the internet. Since the whole point of this hobby is to build physical miniatures, the focus should be on the actual models, and not on artificial backgrounds, special effects, animations, and other heavily manipulated photos run through and/or generated by AI.
- Please leave such AI "enhanced" photos off this subreddit.
