Subreddit Rules
  1. Be civil and respect each other’s opinions and experiences: People have different subtypes of hyperacusis and varying degrees of severity, but we are all struggling. Our journeys and experiences are unique. Don't accuse others of not having hyperacusis/noxacusis, or belittle and undermine them because their symptoms do not match your own. This goes both ways, regardless of how mild or severe you are compared to the other person.
  2. No personal attacks, threats, harassment: It is okay to disagree from time to time, but please keep conversation civil. Threats of any kind will not be tolerated.
  3. When discussions get heated, walk away.
  4. No generalizing hyperacusis experiences: Hyperacusis is a very diverse condition with multiple causes and multiple treatment options. Do not assume your experiences equal those of every other patient.
  5. No threatening or encouraging self harm: We are not qualified to address those threats. Please seek help through your local suicide support group in your country. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_suicide_crisis_lines There are some hyperacusis communities that allow suicidal talk, such as the Discord servers. Please check out the support group links on the sidebar. Additionally if someone expresses suicidal ideation, please do not encourage it.
  6. Avoid flooding, making repeat posts: Please refrain from making the same posts over again and over again. Additionally, when commenting on a post, please edit your original comments instead of posting multiple in a row, as it is spammy and makes threads harder to read.
  7. When asking advice, it is OK to make another post later on if you get few responses the first time. But please refrain from doing it if your question has been answered already.
  8. Limit sharing personal information, no doxxing: Try to keep your anonymity by limiting information you share about yourself and others, including your real name. This is a public internet platform that anyone can view. Doxxing of any kind will not be tolerated. Even if someone is well-known in the H community, referring to them by their full name will get your post removed. Repeated offenses and malicious attempts at doxxing will earn you a ban.
  9. Avoid medical misinformation: We know many acquired hyperacusis from the Covid-19 vaccine, but vax talk is still a controversial topic that Reddit heavily moderates. It is OK to say a vaccine gave you issues, but it is not OK to say all vaccines are bad. The same rule applies for medication; warning others about ototoxic medication is OK, saying all meds are bad is not OK.
  10. No pseudoscience, snake oil: Avoid encouraging unfounded health claims as cure-alls. (ex: dry fasting, urine therapy). We are all desperate for treatment, and many of us will try anything, so posting this advice is dangerous. Alternative medicine such as acupuncture is OK.
  11. No self-promotion or advertising: Such as: Promoting and linking supplement scams or paid programs. GoFundMe’s are not allowed to protect user’s personal information. Fundraising for research is OK. Social media accounts focused on awareness are OK
  12. No ban evasion: Making an alt to avoid a (termporary) ban will result in a permaban.
