  1. Don't Ask For or Offer Medical Advice/Diagnosis: **We are not medical professionals. We can't diagnose you or anyone else with hoarding disorder. Posts or comments such as "Am I a hoarder?", "Is <person> a hoarder?", "Is this hoarding?". "I think I'm hoarder but I'm unsure", etc. will be removed.**
  2. It's okay to share your experiences or ask people to share their experiences with various treatments. But keep it to that, please.
  3. If your situation is urgent, please consult our Wiki for possible resources.
  4. This is a Support Sub - Act Accordingly: This is a support sub. That means we take people at their word when they post, and **do our best to provide the best gentle and accepting support that we can.**
  5. The mods may remove posts/comments at their discretion to preserve a respectful, supportive atmosphere in this sub. Your tone matters when posting, and when responding to others, so be kind!
  6. No Sassing of/Arguing with the Mods: For the most part, the mods like to let the downvotes do the work for us. But sometimes circumstances force us to wade into the fray. If we give you any directions, please comply without smart-ass comments. Failure to do so will result in banning.
  7. Posts and Comments Must Be Related to Hoarding Disorder: The Moderators are the final arbiters of whether or not a post or comment is sufficiently on topic.
  8. Sharing Images of a Hoard; Requesting Images of Hoarding: Sometimes members want to share photos/videos/etc. of hoards. To protect privacy, only share images of hoards if:
  9. it's your own hoard * or if circumstances force you to live with a hoarder
  10. Also, please do not ask anyone to post images of hoarding.
  11. No Posts About Animal Hoarding: Because (a) there are significant and distinct challenges in dealing with animal hoarding, and (b) the suffering of animals is upsetting to some members, posts about Animal Hoarding should be posted to r/animalhoarding. YIf you make a post that involved animal hoarding, it will be deleted.
  12. You can check out the Animal Hoarding section of our Wiki for general guidance, but that's it:
  13. https://www.reddit.com/r/hoarding/wiki/index#wiki_.2A_animal_hoarding
  14. Effective Jan 1 2025
  15. Posts/Comments Recruiting For Projects: If you're here because you're a researcher, producing content about hoarding, or are otherwise looking to recruit people who identify as hoarders/loved ones of hoarders, ***PLEASE NOTE THAT WE ARE CLOSED TO THESE SORTS OF REQUESTS AT THIS TIME.***
  16. Do not post your solicitation, and do NOT comment at or PM members directly to recruit them.
  17. Doing the above will get your post/comment removed and you perma-banned.
  18. Do Not Post/Comment to Promote Your Hoarding-Related Business : **PROMOTION OF HOARDING-RELATED BUSINESSES IS PROHIBITED.** This can be anything from a clean-up business to a web site or social media channel.
  19. If you have such a business and feel you have an exception to this (for example, you offer free or low-cost services to hoarders), please message the mods and we'll review it.
  20. PERSONAL REVIEWS OF SUCH BUSINESSEDS ARE PERMITTED.** If you've hired a business to help you with your hoard, your review is appreciated and encouraged!
  21. Visit r/digitalminimalism for digital hoarding issues: r/hoarding is a support group specifically for people dealing with hoarding disorder, defined as dysfunctional emotional attachments with physical objects.
  22. While we're aware that there's a growing conversation among mental health professionals around the hoarding of digital files, we're currently not able to provide support for anything related to digital hoarding.
  23. We recommend instead that you visit r/digitalminimalism to learn more.
  24. Keeps Asking, Keeps Ignoring: Keeps Asking/Keeps Ignoring refers to users who repeatedly ask the same questions over and over. They may do this for attention or in the hope someone will do the work for them. If you're consistently ignoring advice and coming back with the same question, we may delete your posts, temp ban, or perma-ban you.
  25. Discussion or Fandom of Hoarding Media: While we appreciate that the various TV shows about hoarding helped bring awareness of hoarding disorder to the mainstream, many members here find the shows deeply upsetting and even exploitative of people with the illness.
  26. Occasional discussion of hoarding media (TV shows, documentaries, etc.) is fine, but it's not the main purpose of the sub.
  27. If you're a fan of media about hoarding look to talk with other fans, we encourage you to visit r/HoardersTV
  28. Soliciting or Offers of Clean-Up Help: Because the moderators are unable to vet individuals who offer to help hoarders clean up for free, posts/comments from people making such offers or not permitted. If you need assistance, please check our Wiki for resources that might be helpful.
  29. Home Repair , Specific Cleaning Questions, Etc. Belong Elsewhere: Because of our focus (dealing with hoarding disorder), it's inevitable that some folks will come here with questions that are at best hoarding disorder-adjacent. It's an honest mistake, we get that, but please keep in mind that r/hoarding can't address every vaguely-related question.
  30. See [this post](https://www.reddit.com/r/h ) to learn more and determine which subreddit to send your post to. Also keep in mind that ***some answers can come from offline sources.***
