Subreddit Rules
  1. Subculture Relevancy: All posts and comments must relate to the goth subculture, music (including sub-genres/counterparts) and history; "goth" referring to the British-originating late 70s/early 80s post-punk subculture. For Gothic literature visit r/horrorlit and for architecture, r/Gothic.
  2. General 'dark' posts can be posted in r/DarklyInclined.
  3. Themed Day posts **must** be relevant to the subreddit, and fashion questions, advice, selfies, etc. must be posted in r/GothFashion when it's not Friday.
  4. Music Relevancy: Please check our side bar/'About" section for acceptable genres to post.
  5. Please keep out any form of hard rock/metal, neo/classical, experimental/electronic, grunge, new wave/synthpop, industrial incl. EBM, aggrotech, futurepop, neo/folk, country, etc. of the subreddit. See [rules](https://www.reddit.com/r/goth/wiki/rules) for further information.
  6. No GothBoiClique/Soundcloud or mumble rap/hip hop/trap posts! They aren't goth artists, and have their own subs: /r/gothboiclique and /r/emorap.
  7. Low Effort Posting: Posts that aren't very conversational, long, interesting, or quality please consider posting about it on our Weekly Discussion Thread.
  8. Anything that can be answered in the FAQ or are regarded as requests for general information on music, fashion, or accessories/make-up may also be removed and the user referred to our [Wiki](https://www.reddit.com/r/goth/wiki/index) or to r/GothFashion.
  9. Lastly, please title songs correctly (song and band in the title) and do not post more than one within a day.
  10. No Hate Speech, Personal Attacks or Doxxing: This includes but is not limited to, racism, sexism, homophobic, transphobic, or other discriminatory speech, including user-names. Any of this, and you may be permanently removed. This also goes for band members.
  11. Don't attack people on a personal level: no name-calling, derogatory terms, threats, or urging someone to self harm. Disagree with each other, but try and be civil about it.
  12. If someone attacks you or someone, report it to us, don't engage them, or you may be punished as well.
  13. No Witch Hunts or Loaded Questions: Please don't rile up the community to vote or go against something. There's been too many cases where someone or something have been wrongly accused.
  14. Don't post loaded questions with the intent to start an argument, fight or debate, including references to past threads. Angry-posting because your post, comment, whatever has been removed will, obviously, be removed, too. Further action regarding a temp/perm ban or mute may be taken.
  15. "Gatekeeper"/"Elitism" Accusations: Calling people a "gatekeeper"/"elitist" because they've gently corrected or educated you will result in your post or comment being removed.
  16. This happens way too much in alternative/goth culture and most of the time, these words are used weightlessly to try and end or win an argument. Saying goth is a music based subculture isn't "elitism", and neither is wanting music to be labelled correctly.
  17. Real elitism/gatekeeping isn't common, but will of course be dealt with accordingly.
  18. No Politics or Religion: If you want to discuss politics or religion, then it's probably better to take it up in /r/politics or /r/religion.
  19. They cause too many arguments, divide people, and aren't the focus of this subreddit. If you want to talk about either, ask in r/AskAGoth.
  20. We will not remove posts regarding LGBTQIA+ rights, racism issues, etc. as long as they are within moderation but we may remove bands whose members are known neo-Nazi's, confederate members, etc. They do not need validation or recognition.
  21. No Objectification of Goths
  22. porn, objectification of goths, BTGGF, LF Partner or asking people out, and no questions on how to date or talk to goth posts. This includes OnlyFans spam/lingerie models.
  23. Please see the detailed version of the rules on the Wiki for "Do goth girls date normal guys?"
  24. "Leghumping"-posting and creepy comments from users, especially towards minors, will be removed and the user, permanently banned.
  25. People who send unsolicited DMs to members will be banned. If this happens, modmail us details.
  26. Spreading Misinformation: The subculture is defined and acknowledged to be a music-based subculture with its origins in late 70s/early '80s British post-punk movement.
  27. Any comments boiling it down to a "personality", a "mindset", an "aesthetic", a "philosophy" or conflating goth with Gothic will be removed.
  28. Let's stay on topic and not ignore any of the research!
  29. Additionally, leave your stereotypes at the door. This isn't the '90s!
  30. Keep Memes/Fun Posts in r/gothmemes: We enjoy a good meme every now and then, but they tend to gain more popularity and traction over discussions, art, etc. and we'd rather keep this subreddit for quality material.
  31. If you want to post goth memes, please visit r/gothmemes.
  32. Spam and Self Promotion: Any posts to GoFundMe, your own YouTube, clothing shop, ticket sales etc., may be removed, including record labels/bands spamming across multiple subreddits.
  33. If you want to post a survey/research question, please **ask** first, otherwise it may be removed.
  34. Please do not advertise your own alt./goth Discord either, the subreddit has its own at [Gothy Discord](https://discord.com/invite/6TvVxRw).
  35. If your account is clearly aimed at trying to sell or promote something your post may be removed.
  36. Restricted Bands: Restricted bands are to be posted on **Throwback Thursday** only, due to increased karma farming. These bands include:
  37. Bauhaus * Siouxsie and the Banshees * The Cure * The Sisters of Mercy * Joy Division * Christian Death
  38. Exceptions include rare or a recent live performances, a new release or news, a new tour or reunion, an anniversary or band members birthday.
  39. Post-Weekend Fashion Cull: After Fashion Friday and Spooky Saturday are over, fashion posts/selfies may be removed.
  40. This is done as fashion posts attract hundreds of upvotes and overshadow music posts during the week. Our focus is on goth music first. You can repost in r/gothfashion after removal.
  41. Blocked By Ban Evasion: Reddit detects and auto-remove posts from accounts who are connected to banned accounts. If you have been caught out attempting to get around being banned with a new account or you have been caught out by having an alternate account that got banned, your posts will remain removed and we may ban any connected accounts too.
  42. No AI: This includes, but isn't limited to:
  43. AI written posts
  44. AI recommendations or requests * Limited AI discussions e.g. discussing the harm of it and impact on the scene is allowed, but encouraging others to use it and experiment with it for genuine production is not
  45. AI is the exact opposite of the subcultures values (genuine, authentic, DIY music) and uses music already in existence so it's essentially stealing. We will not be advocates for that.
