Subreddit Rules
  1. Don't be a jerk: It's totally fine to disagree. Do so politely. Behave as an adult. Name calling, doxing etc is not okay here. Try not to be caustic. Life is hard enough.
  2. Treat everyone "as if" they're having a bad day and you'll be fine. Disagree if you like - just don't be disagreeable. Remember there's a human being on the other side of the keyboard.
  3. Pros Pay Taxes; Everyone else? The "Ask a Pro" thread.: We define a "Pro" as someone who pays yearly taxes on their work. It's not meant to be exclusionary - merely the "how do I find a job/break in/what websites are all the jobs at" is meant for our Ask a Pro thread. https://www.reddit.com/r/editors/about/sticky?num=1
  4. Paid work must state $/hr or $/day IN THE TITLE: You can't harvest names/people. Specify *how much you're going to spend* per hour or day. If you want to bid it out as a **fixed job - you have to specify how many hours *you think* it will take.** If you don't know, then you shouldn't ask for a flat fee.
  5. If you are a business, or representative, and cannot disclose details of a job because of confidentiality rules, contact the moderation team so we can verify the authenticity of your job offer and grant an exemption.
  6. Pick a subreddit - not both (either here or /r/videoediting): Either you're a professional (post here) or you're not (post on /r/videoediting). Only in some rare circumstances should you be posting in both places.
  7. Don't ask about rates - too difficult: Ok, we get it. "How much to charge." Whatever your question - we can't REALLY answer it. It has WAY too much to do with the gig, how long it takes, where you live and hell, what your time is worth.
  8. Deeper thoughts are part of two wiki entries found here: https://www.reddit.com/r/editors/about/wiki/index/
  9. We *can't* answer "How much you're worth." ie RATES: We can't REALLY answer "How much to charge."
  10. It has WAY too much to do with the gig, how long it takes, where you live and hell, what your time is worth.
  11. Deeper thoughts are part of two wiki entries found here: https://www.reddit.com/r/editors/about/wiki/index/
  12. Advertising your services - we'll consider it spam: Don't advertise your video services. You're around other professionals. Asking for a critique of your site is fine. Hang your shingle around people who could use your services instead!
  13. Look, does it make any sense to be in a room of Doctors and say "I"m a doctor too?"
  14. No - go to a room of patients and say "Hey, I'm a doctor." Don't promote your services.
  15. Don't ask or offer work for free: It's in bad taste to ask for free help to get you work done. It's ALSO in bad taste to offer free help. If you're looking for collaboration, best be with people you know IRL
  16. Piracy: Discussion or advocacy of piracy is strictly prohibited
  17. Feedback: Driveby posting is highly discouraged. If you're going to ask for feedback, do it from Vimeo or other film-centric site
  18. FB/Twitter/YT etc.
  19. Ask for specific feedback** such as a specific scene, pacing, etc. Not just "what do you like?"
  20. Every other week is a "Reel review" for your showreel/portfolio and a "Show off your work" on Sundays. Please use those threads.
  21. AMA? No you can't just post your AMA: We're really protective/fact checking around AMA's *which is why it's greyed out as a post option*. We're open to them - but have some tight unwritten rules about them.
  22. Use of link shorteners: Link shorteners hide the ultimate destination of a link, and can be used to trick people into going to malicious websites. For everyone's protection we don't allow them to be used.
  23. If you want to avoid including a big ugly URL, you can either use [Markdown](http://www.reddit.com/wiki/commenting) to link some text, like this: `[text here](http://www.reddit.com)` [text here](http://www.reddit.com), or use New Reddit™'s fancy-pants [WYSIWYG](http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/WYSIWYG) editor.
  24. Use of affiliate links: In order to discourage spammers from trawling our subreddit looking for opportunities to profit off of the community we prohibit the use of affiliate-tagged links.
  25. Developer? Use this thread about your product: We don't allow developers to post about their product directly as a post or spam our comments with their product, regardless of how good it is. We have a dedicated thread for you to use. Please use it and obey the rules for it
  26. Low effort means…open ended questions and more - and it's a NO: Yeah, we get it. You want to create a discussion, controversy or want your answers on a plate.
  27. We expect some effort and some space to be relevant. Show some research or more than just *feeding your question to Reddit as if it was Google.*
  28. And yes, this is totally on the mod's discretion.
