Subreddit Rules
  1. Encouraging virus use/creation: Posts and comments that encourage or seek knowledge on how to create, spread, or enhance viruses or malware in any way are not allowed. This is a subreddit that supports removing malware, not spreading them.
  2. No personal attacks: It's fine to engage in heated discussions but please refrain from flinging personal insults, trolling other users, or harassing people. Keep in mind that harassment is against the sitewide rules (https://www.redditinc.com/policies/content-policy).
  3. Refrain from abandoning discussion: Once you have created a discussion, please refrain from abandoning it. It confuses us as we dont know if you still want to continue, in short, do not make discussions if you are not sure if you want to keep them. If you want to abandon one, please contact one of the mods of /r/computerviruses.
  4. Defang potentially malicious links: Do not post clickable links to suspicious or malicious files, file downloads or websites. You can post these links by defanging them, e.g., instead of https://reddit.com -> hxxps://reddit(dot)com. Keep links visible so users can see where they lead.
  5. You are allowed to help other users, but be professional about it: If you feel the urge of stepping it, be civilized about it and try to be as serious as you can.
  6. Do not spread dangerous misinformation or harmful advice: Misinformation and any advice that can cause harm or damage will be removed
  7. Stay on-topic and do not post junk questions or fake help requests: Don't waste people's time. Fake help requests and requests with joke malware are considered junk and so are off-topic posts that don't have anything to do with malware.
  8. Illegal software: Do not promote or aid in the use of illegal software, including hack tools, malware, cracks, keygens, warez, or pirated games. We allow malware assistance regardless of how an infection occurred; however, posts intended only to determine whether illegal software is “safe to use” or how to obtain or run it are not allowed.
  9. Required information for sample/URL analysis: If you are requesting help to determine if a certain file or website is clean, scan it with Virustotal and provide the following information: * Virustotal link * where you got the file from (if it is a link, defang it, see defang rule) * why you suspect it is malicious
  10. Screenshots of analysis sites like Virustotal or similar sites are insufficient for meaningful assistance. Posts without sufficient information will be removed.
  11. Providing help with FRST or similar expert tools: FRST is a powerful tool that can cause issues if used incorrectly. Only approved users should offer to create fixlists. Message the mods if you have experience with FRST and would like to use it to help on posts.
