Subreddit Rules
  1. All posts should be relevant and specific to Chicago: Please keep posts relevant and specific to the people, places, and things in and about Chicago & Illinois things that affect Chicago. Just because something was made or done by someone from or living in Chicago, or about a Chicago sports team, does not necessarily make it relevant to the city.
  2. Don't harass others: Harassment, bullying, baiting, slap-fighting, and public shaming is not allowed and may result in a ban. This includes digging through someone's post history for things to bring up in an argument or being a dick in general.
  3. Bigotry or hate speech against any group is not allowed and will likely result in a ban.
  4. Don't break the site or violate the site-wide rules: Do not engage in spamming, vote manipulation, subscriber fraud, brigading, ban evasion, impersonation, doxxing, illegal content/activities (including CSAM, distribution of illegal drugs, trying to buy/use fake IDs, etc), or anything that breaks the site. You can view Reddit Inc's content policy [here](https://www.redditinc.com/policies/content-policy).
  5. A violation of this rule will likely result in a ban.
  6. Use correct flair and NSFW tags for posts: Please use the correct link flair when posting so that it can be correctly categorized. If your post is NSFW, please mark it as such.
  7. No classifieds style posts: This subreddit is not meant to be a classifieds page. Do not make buy/sell/giveaway/crowdfunding posts, posts looking for roommates or housing, missed connections, or posts about jobs or services. Instead, post them to /r/ChicagoList, /r/ChicagoApartments, /r/ChicagoJobs, or one of the many subject specific Chicago-related subreddits listed in the wiki.
  8. Posts regarding lost items are generally not allowed but we will make exceptions for posts about missing persons or lost/found pets.
  9. Self-posts should be community engaging: Self-posts should stimulate discussion and be generally relevant to Chicagoans. This rule is very much at moderator discretion. Posts requesting recommendations or social groups, about moving here/visiting, questions answerable by Google/our wiki/a phone call, asking what that noise/etc was, surveys, personal anecdotes or rants, and other low-effort posts will be removed. Please direct these to the pinned weekly thread or /r/AskChicago instead.
  10. Do not post things that have already been posted in /r/Chicago within the past month: Use the search function or look at our front page before posting, don't ask the same thing that another user just asked or post an article another user just posted. Articles about the same topic that are from different sources and have a different perspective are OK, but do not post links that have already been posted here recently (within the past month).
  11. Don't just promote, participate: We don't mind you sharing events/groups you're part of, but we expect you to be an active participating member of the subreddit before sharing. This subreddit is not meant to be an advertising platform; if you're a promoter, influencer (no vlogs), in a touring band, or trying to promote yourself or your business this isn't the appropriate place. If you do participate here we still ask that you don't make a post promoting anything more than once a month and participate more than you promote.
  12. Crime-related posts that do not have a wider impact on the city will be removed: In an effort to foster a more positive community, the following crime-related posts are not allowed at moderator discretion:
  13. - "Crime Recap" posts (e.g. articles with titles such as "10 People Shot in Weekend Violence Across Chicago")
  14. - Posts about a violent or petty crime targeting private individual(s) without greater impact on the Chicago area
  15. - Posts about crime statistics or trends
  16. - Crime-related posts that are vague or generalized
  17. - Posts that use crime news to rile up users
  18. Use full news headlines and reputable sources: All posts of news articles must use only the full, accurate headline of the article for the title.
  19. All news must come from reputable sources. Where possible, use reputable local sources, e.g. SunTimes, Tribune, WBEZ, Block Club, Crains.
