Subreddit Rules
- Classwork, Homework, Exam, And Lab Questions: Ask classwork, homework, exam, and lab questions (including amateur labs) at [Chemical Forums](http://www.chemicalforums.com/) or /r/chemhelp otherwise they will be removed and you will be banned.
- Undergraduate and High School Chemistry: We welcome open-ended and curiosity-based discussions, however they should be sufficiently interesting. For basic questions head to /r/chemhelp, r/AskChemistry, or r/AskScience for more general questions.
- Nefarious deeds
- dangerous or illegal activities are tolerated in this sub. This includes illicit drug synthesis, bomb making or unsafe chemistry practices as well as giving obviously unsafe advice.
- Being a Jerk: This is a scientifically-oriented and welcoming community, and insulting other commenters or being uncivil or disrespectful is not tolerated.
- NSFW: As this is a scientific subreddit, content should be SFW. If for some reason NSFW content needs to be posted, it must be clearly labeled as such. If labeled, the relevance/necessity of the content will be evaluated on a case-by-case basis to determine whether the content stays or not.
- Zero-content material
- memes, rage comics, image macros, reaction gifs, or other "zero-content" material. Ever.
- ChatGPT and AI Chemistry
- "AI Bad at Chemistry" posts. Discussion around the positive usage of artificial intelligence in the field of chemistry is permitted. However, you should be aware of the limits of specific AI models and shouldn't follow synthesis routes they present without an understanding of the underlying chemistry. Additionally, job advertising posts for training AI/LLM-Models are explicitly banned.
- Medical Advice, Spills, Contamination and Mixing of Chemicals (e.g. Cleaning Agents): This subreddit does not exist to give advice in ANY emergency situation. Posts asking for medical advice, help with spills or more general contamination (like that from mixing cleaning chemicals) will be removed and you will receive a warning ban. We are not medical doctors and cannot judge whether you should seek medical attention. If you are concerned for your health, consult the safety data sheet, local poison control hotlines and other health/cleanup/decontamination/emergency professionals.
- Use appropriate Megathreads: For Career- or Research-Questions use the appropriate weekly megathreads pinned to the subreddit. For Salary Questions first check out the salary poll.
- (Self-) Promotion: If you want to promote something, be it an App, Website, Tutoring Course, Helpful Tool or even a PhD-Position, send a mod mail first. Failure to do so will result in the post being removed. Sharing Scientific Papers, both your own and ones you find interesting is always allowed, but we'd ask that you give a synopsis and explain, why you feel it's relevant to this subreddit. Posts that have been approved by moderation will have a pinned comment by a member of the mod team denoting them as such.
