Subreddit Rules
- No incivility: Our top priority as a community is to be a calm, healing place. We do not allow rudeness, snarkiness, hurtful sarcasm, rage bait (even if it is unintentional), or argumentativeness. Please remain civil in all discussion.
- No self-promotion: Please do not link to self-authored blogs, apps, book groups, books, etc
- commercial AMAs.
- If you want to share important news that you've posted on your blog, you can enter your submission as a text post, rather than as a blog link. _So long as you don't link back or refer to your work_, then it's OK, even if the content is the same.
- As a general rule, if it's not worth sharing without advertising the source, then it's not worth sharing.** That's basically the whole point, after all.
- No fundraising
- charity appeals, kick starters, or donation requests.
- No spam: Spam can be hard to define; honest product reviews are welcome. Advocacy is OK if it manages to avoid donation seeking. Posts from people who are members of our community are given more latitude but it always comes down to a moderator's judgement call.
- Our original [posting policy](https://www.reddit.com/r/cfs/wiki/spam) describes this in more detail.
- No trolling: Discussion crosses the line into trolling when the greater intent of the poster is to stir up trouble, rather than to challenge an idea or opinion.
- Trolling is a major threat to free discussion, in part because it can make discussion impossible, and in part because efforts to control trolling become a form of censorship in themselves. Trolling is distinguished by a desire to harm others, and it is the desire to harm, not the content of the ideas, which constitutes a violation of our rules.
- No recruitment of study or journalism participants without permission: Solicitation of patients to participate in studies, research or journalism must be approved by the moderators prior to posting. This rule is to protect patients from giving their personal and health information to an imposter, to ensure data privacy, and to safeguard people with ME/CFS from inappropriate or harmful research and journalism.
- To maintain our community focus, research that is solely about another condition will not be approved.
- No sexism, ableism, homophobia, transphobia, or racism: Diversity is important in our community. Sexism, ableism, homophobia, transphobia, and racism will not be tolerated. For more information please brush up on your reddiquette: https://reddit.zendesk.com/hc/en-us/articles/205926439-Reddiquette
- No misinformation: Blatant misinformation is not permitted. While acknowledging (and acutely experiencing) the limitations of medical and scientific knowledge, we do not allow the promotion of un- or anti-scientific propaganda.
- No overly graphic titles: Descriptions of self-harm or abuse are not permitted in titles as they can be traumatizing.
- No URL shorteners or affiliate links: URL shorteners are links to a domain, like a.co or t.co, that expand to a different domain, like amazon.com or twitter.com, that serve to obscure the actual destination URL, and can mask undesirable aspects like affiliate links, which are also not allowed.
- No discussion of brain retraining programs: Brain retraining is a pseudoscientific practice that denies the physiological origin of ME/CFS. These programs create a cult-like atmosphere by gaslighting participants and shaming them for the lack of progress. They incentivize positive testimonies and referrals. This is why we can’t allow content that encourages participation in those programs even if it’s framed as a personal experience report. We believe this is necessary for protecting our user base from scammers.
- Formatting: Long posts must have a TLDR and paragraph breaks, Posts must have body text: Any long post must have a TLDR (too long don’t read) aka a summary of your post posts. You’re also required to use paragraph breaks, as walls of text are inaccessible to most of our members. Posts with links need some description and body text, no links without descriptions are allowed.
- AI generated content must be clearly labelled: All AI generated content must be labelled clearly and use the “AI generated content” flair.
- Be clear about the limitations of AI models and do not make categoric claims based on AI generated content. AI models cannot check the accuracy or validity of information, they only associate words based on common associations in their training set.
- No AI use on behalf of another person without their consent. Please do not reply to someone else's question by posting AI answers unsolicited.
- Ban evasion: Individuals caught evading bans will be banned again
- Social media: Twitter/X links must be accompanied by a text transcript or screenshot: Posting links to social media is allowed, if you are unable to find an alternative source for that content/information.
- However, all **Twitter/X** content **must** include a screenshot or a transcript of the content. Viewers should not have to actually visit X.
- When posting a link to other social media, we encourage you to consider providing screenshots or transcripts to improve accessibility.
