- Be respectful: Be polite and respectful to other users. This includes being kind towards the people who are trying to help you or give you advice. Offensive/aggressive language and behavior are not tolerated here. Language that is condescending to the OP for asking an ID will similarly not be tolerated.
- Must be about bones: Your post must be about bones (and other animal remains) or collecting bones. Funny memes about bone collecting are allowed, but do not spam them constantly.
- Don't title your post anything along the lines of "Is this a human bone?": Seriously, there are way too many posts with this same title, and the remains are almost never from a human being! It's good that you want to be sure and you're more than welcome to have us ID your specimen, but this is a subreddit for people who appreciate animal bones, not your favorite crime drama. This also leads to a lot of bad IDs.
- Post multiple good images at different angles for bone ID posts (unless you only have one photo): In order to make an accurate identification of an animal's remains, several different pictures of the same specimen at different angles are often needed (try to include 3-7 photos). Also, make sure that your images are clear and well lit. Put a part of your body (such as your hand or arm) or a common everyday thing (such as a banana or shoe) next to it so we can get a proper sense of its size. For this purpose, rulers, meter/yard sticks and other tools of measurement are always preferred.
- Use post flairs: We have a bunch of nice post flairs for your bone IDs, sharing artwork, showing off bones from your collection, showing others what you've found, general advice and meta posts. Please use them correctly.
- Don't give false IDs on purpose: It really isn't that funny and it's just wasting everyone's time. If you make it very obvious in your comment that you're joking and it's all lighthearted and in the name of fun, that's alright, but do not start spamming a thread. Especially do not provide a misID on human remains unless you are qualified to ID human remains. Doing so leads to unnecessary anxiety on the part of the OP, as well as bad advice. We have experts for that (and they have flair identifying them as such).
- No solicitation: If someone in the comment of your post asks you where you purchased a specimen or a piece of art, you are allowed to answer them, and you may leave a link to the seller's website or their contact information (even if you are the seller), but do not advertise any of these things in the post title! Also, do not solicit for answers to quizzes/tests!!!
- Be mindful of your country’s collection laws.: This is an international community and it is impossible for the mods to regulate posts to ensure that everyone is following the requisite local, state/provincial, country, and international laws and regulations, such as CITES and MBTA. We ask that all members be respectful when this issue is raised, and all members be aware that laws may be applied differently depending on location.
- No spamming threads: Do not flood a thread with unhelpful comments. Comments for "itsalwaysaraccoon", and "itsapelvis" are not permitted. "RemindMe" bots are not permitted (please use the save function instead). "Reset timer" related unhelpful comments/memes on ID posts are not permitted, spammers will receive a 3 day ban for first offense.
- Duplicate post: Please do not repeat a post that is less than 72 hours old. When reposting someone else's thread from a different sub, do not repeat the same tag if you are not the Original Poster, and you must tag the Original Poster.
- No Collections of Human Remains: The intentional collection of human remains is not supported in this sub. Posts advertising private or publically held collections will be removed.
