Subreddit Rules
  1. For Black Men: 1.1. We keep posts relevant to Black men or the Black community. Posts on topics like Black women or racism are fine, but those without meaningful discussion may be removed.
  2. 1.2. This space centers Black men. Black women are welcome but sister spaces like r/blackladies might be better suited for Black woman-centered opinions.
  3. 1.3. We show up for Black men who need support in times of need. Shaming won't be tolerated.
  4. 1.4. We avoid making or highlighting harmful generalizations of Black men.
  5. Community Safety: 2.1. Do not participate in racism, homophobia, ableism, colorism, sexism, transphobia, or tribalism. This is expected both of members and of the content posted.
  6. 2.2. Racking up too much negative karma (especially in a short period of time) can lead to your post/comment being removed and potentially a verification ban.
  7. 2.3. Do not incite witch-hunts, harassment, or any drama about the community, its members, or moderators.
  8. Misogyny/Misandry: 4.1. Misogynoir/Misandry is strictly prohibited. While Black men/women may have bad experiences with Black men/women, Black people are not a monolith. These conversations should be focused on supporting Black people, not aiming to perpetuate harmful ideas and rhetoric.
  9. 4.2. Posts promoting Kevin Samuels, Andrew Tate, Sneako, or any other non-licensed “counselors” from the Black Manosphere or known facilitators of misogynoir/misandry will be removed without warning.
  10. Data, Research, and Good Faith Participation: 5.1. Using out-of-date data and research to make a point is prohibited.
  11. 5.2. Purposely misinterpreting and misrepresenting data and research to make a point is prohibited.
  12. 5.3. Using valid data and research to devalue and invalidate the experiences of others is strictly prohibited.
  13. 5.4. Any form of trolling, derailment, pot-stirring, or bad faith participation is prohibited. Repeated violations may result in a ban.
  14. Low-Effort Posting: 6.1. Low-effort content is prohibited. This also includes posts that are of no benefit to the community, even if technically relevant to Black men.
  15. 6.2. Spam is prohibited. This is content that has already been posted in some format on the sub. (Please wait at least 3 days before posting on the same topic.)
  16. 6.3. Self-promotion is discouraged. This is posting content to get views, even if your content is related to Black men. Share links via DM or chat, and only if asked.
  17. Respect and Civility: 7.1. Refrain from personal attacks, harassment, or cruel and malicious behavior. If someone is being uncivil, please report them or message modmail.
  18. 7.2. Using the post history of someone you disagree with is discouraged. However, if you find something that may violate r/blackmen rules, please report them or message modmail.
  19. 7.3. Respectability politics is prohibited. These are more or less topics that offer shallow critiques of Black culture.
  20. No Brigading (When Crossposting): 3.1. Crossposts about racism or anti-Blackness are fine, save for known hateful online spaces. Yes — especially THAT one.
  21. 3.2. When crossposting, do not post or comment on r/blackmen to participate or incite others to participate in the crossposted content.
  22. 3.3. Do not go to a crosspost to further argue or otherwise add on to a controversial discussion in another community. Voice your disagreements here.
  23. 3.4. Crossposts of selfies or personal images require permission from the OP.
  24. Not Enough "Community Karma": 8.1 – Posts removed because user has not yet reached the 400 "community karma" requirement 8.1.1 – Removed by either the automod ("the bot") or one of our subreddit moderators
  25. Derailing the Conversation: 9.1 – A form of "Bad-Faith Participation". Users who pot-stir to distract from the current conversation 9.2 – Users who currently or regularly derail certain conversations by diminishing the Black experience or repeating platitudes and one liner with no in-depth personal opinion of their own.
  26. Survey Verification: If you want to post a survey, please message the mods via modmail. Include:
  27. The purpose of your research * The relevant IRB information * A link to the survey
  28. Subreddit Verification: If you'd like to bypass karma requirements, refer to our verification process in the subreddit sidebar. This identifies to readers that you are a Black man or Black woman offering your perspective, and encourages them to also get verified.
  29. If you've recently been warned or banned, verification may be delayed for community safety. For more details, we encourage you to contact mods via modmail.
  30. No NSFW Content: We keep it PG at all times.
