Subreddit Rules
  1. Be civil and respectful / No hate speech / No Gatekeeping: Be civil and respectful to others. You may not always agree with others, but once you start insulting the other person, you become the problem.
  2. No Gatekeeping - you don't decide if someone is a "real" veteran or not - nor try to diminish someone's service because they never deployed or held a different job.
  3. If someone personally attacks you, report them to the mod team and Reddit.
  4. Hate speech can be sexist, ableist, racist, bigotry, homophobic, prejudiced, etc and will not be tolerated.
  5. No donation or charity requests / GoFundMe / Handouts
  6. GoFundMe requests - No requests for money of any kind, nor asking for goods or services or handouts or loans!
  7. No websites or news articles with a donation button - No charities or nonprofits linked or named - we will not have a discussion about whether a charity is good or bad on this sub. We will not verify a charity or nonprofit.
  8. This rule includes asking how to start, run or build a nonprofit.
  9. No Politics or Religious discussions: This is a neutral zone - all veterans are welcome here no matter their political or religious beliefs. Not the place to fight about which side of the political or religious fence you support or to post derogatory posts about a specific party or elected official or religion. This is not the place to promote a candidate or post Change.org or petitions. The rule also applies to religion discussions and comments.
  10. Moderators have final say on what type of topics and articles fall under this rule.
  11. No social media, video, podcasts, etc: We do not allow videos, TikTok, Instagram, Podcasts, Spotify, Movies, etc. - so don't post any of these. We rarely make exceptions to this rule
  12. When in doubt, message the Mods before you post - videos includes podcasts, YouTube or other videos websites, or anything of that nature.
  13. When the Automoderator Bot removes your post or comment, it's because you posted something not allowed - click the "Message the Moderators" link to request an exception which is rarely granted.
  14. No solicitation, promotion of self, business, YouTube channels, podcasts, etc: This is not the place to advertise your (or your friend's) business, website, podcast, YouTube, or Discord server. This is not the place for reporters to boost their readership or share their news articles.
  15. If your username is the same as the link submitted, you could be instantly banned
  16. Do not post here as a loan officer or real estate agent to solicit business
  17. Do not post names of doctors or lawyers or other professionals you have worked with
  18. Do not post Vet Tex referral codes
  19. No Posting unauthorized VA disability claim companies: If a company/business/person is not authorized to file claims per VA rules and the law, we don't allow recommendations to use them.
  20. Many companies prey on veterans in order to make money by giving bogus advice, nexus letters, or DBQs. These are written up by their doctors for a price that is illegal.
  21. Use a VSO, VA Accredited Agent or for appeals, a VA approved lawyer: https://www.ebenefits.va.gov/ebenefits/vso-search
  22. Avoid DMs / messages - please discuss publicly to benefit all: The purpose of a forum like this is the open exchange of ideas. Moving conversations to a PM/DM/Chat negates that.
  23. Many spammers and trolls try to move conversations to PM/DM/CHAT to better effect their scam.
  24. In order to facilitate knowledge transfer, please hold discussions inside posts and comments.
  25. This rule also ties into the rule of not naming doctors, lawyers, promote podcasts, etc
  26. mentioning or requesting DMs for those.
  27. No posting names of Doctors, Lawyers, Real Estate Agents, etc
  28. Posting names or recommendations to use - Doctors, Lawyers, Real Estate Agents, Financial Advisors, Realtors, Loan Originators and any other professionals
  29. No requesting names of Doctors, Lawyers, Real Estate Agents, Financial Advisors, Realtors, Loan Originators and any other professionals
  30. 5 on Promotion and
  31. Surveys, Studies, Interviews, Polls require Moderator Approval Always: To prevent veterans personal information from being collected and used for malicious purposes, all posters must request permission from the Mods who will verify the poster is conducting appropriate research for all Surveys, Studies, Interviews, - full details published in the Wiki - https://www.reddit.com/r/Veterans/wiki/rules because of character limitations here.
  32. Memes: Have a talent to share? There is a sub for that, but this isn't it. Try /r/videos /r/Music /r/photography /r/IMadeThis /r/listentothis /r/videos, etc. Memes includes anything meant to only entertain - no jokes, no funny pictures, no funny videos, etc. sorry but this is not the place for these - we prefer serious discussions here.
  33. Moderators have final decision: Only the Moderator's interpretation of the rules matters - your opinion of the meaning of the rules does not overrule any moderator decision. This is not a democracy. Your opinion is your opinion but that doesn't change the rules.
  34. Moderators have final say in what can be posted in this subreddit.
  35. Deliberately posting misinformation will not be tolerated - not all sources on the internet are valid.
  36. No Use of AI: Please use your own thoughts, ideas, and words when posting or replying here. The nature of this sub means that sincerity is extremely important when communicating here and the overuse of AI may come off as flippant or even sarcastic. Additionally, AI is well known to give false or misleading info. In other words, AI lies exceptionally often. AI includes ChatGPT, Bard, Grok, or any other generative software.
  37. So we don't allow the promotion of the use of AI nor any content that is written by AI.
  38. Employment posts: Employment posts must be pre-approved by the mods. We do not allow these posts to only provide information off-site such as private message, WhatsApp, facebook, instagram, etc. A direct link to the job application for that company must be provided in the post. Headhunters must clearly identify themselves as such and their rates.
  39. No Medical Advice or drug conversations - Consult with a Doctor: This is not the place to discuss medical treatments or to get or give advice on which drugs to pursue. You need to discuss that with a medical doctor not randos on Reddit.
