- Do not discuss illegal teaching: Teaching illegally, for example, teaching without a degree in a country which requires you to have one for a visa, is not just unprofessional, it's dangerous. Such teachers risk being arrested, fined, jailed, deported, and banned from re-entry. /r/tefl DOES NOT condone breaking local laws or teaching illegally. It is, therefore, against the rules to discuss or encourage illegal teaching.
- No self-promotion or promotion: Self-promotion or promotion of any sort is banned. This includes, but is not limited to, posting links to personal blogs/sites, singing the praises of particular TEFL courses or review sites, or "talking up" a particular employer. Posting referral links for online teaching sites or anything you stand to benefit from (financially or otherwise) is also banned. - No recruitment: /r/tefl is a discussion sub, not a job board. We DO NOT allow recruitment of any sort, including, but not limited to, job adverts, links to recruiters'/employers' sites, referral links for online teaching sites, teachers offering to "hook other members up", and PMs from recruiters/teachers attempting to fill vacancies. Job vacancies should be advertised in /r/tesoljobs.
- No links to blogs: There are countless blogs about people's TEFL experiences, and if we let everyone post them, that's all the subreddit would be. Please find somewhere else to advertise your blog. Even if you think it'll benefit other readers, this is not the place for it. Posts/comments containing links to blogs will be removed, and posters may be permanently banned.
- No CSP/CFTU-related posts, comments, or links: CSP/CFTU-related posts and discussions result in too much moderator intervention as they gather more sock puppet accounts and those against them gather more sock puppet accounts. It is, therefore, in everyone's best interest that this subreddit is a CSP/CFTU-free zone.

- Online teaching posts belong in /r/online_tefl or /r/OnlineESLTeaching: Although /r/tefl was set up to deal with everything TEFL-related, there are now specific subs for questions related to teaching online. Please repost in /r/online_tefl or /r/OnlineESLTeaching.
- Maintaining transparency on r/tefl: At r/tefl, we work very hard to protect our members from those who seek to prey on the inexperienced, the naïve, or those who have failed to do their own research. To this end, we feel that all discussion should be in public, and thus, requests for PMs to be sent will be automatically removed.
- If you receive any unsolicited PMs from people trying to recruit you or to encourage you to work illegally, please message the moderators so we can remove the sender's posting privileges.
