Subreddit Rules
- No speaking over/invalidating high support needs autists.: Please remember that ASD is a vast spectrum which can include profound effects on the social communication skills of people with higher support needs. This is a safe space where everyone has the right to be heard and share their opinion using their own styles of communication. This is the Internet and we don't know each other's stories. Those with lower support needs should not shame, invalidate or otherwise speak over HSN individuals.
- Be Respectful: Please be respectful and don’t insult or attack others. Participate in good faith and give the benefit of the doubt. No shaming or name-calling.
- No misinformation: Please feel free to repost if you can provide legitimate sources.
- No deliberately spreading negativity : Don’t post just to spread negativity or start arguments. Disagreements are fine, but keep them respectful and constructive. Rants or vents are allowed if they’re about your own experience but don’t name people, usernames or other subreddits. Don't bring problems from other subs and platforms to Spicy Autism. Posts that are combative or disruptive will be removed and might lead to further moderator action.
- Limited Discussion about DSM levels: Levels are diagnosed under the DSM-5 and higher. Not all countries use the DSM, many use the ICD. Levels are not a part of the ICD ASD Criteria. The most current editions are the DSM 5-TR, and the ICD 11. You cannot officially self-assign a level, levels can only be given by a qualified assessor, however many use support need labels instead like low, moderate and high support needs. Not having a level doesn't make anyone less autistic. Professionally given levels should not be disputed here.
- Moderator Discretion: The mod team reserves the right to act in the best interests of the sub.
- No call out posts identifying other subs, servers, or users: This is an official Reddit rule, not just ours. As far as we understand, it’s only negative call outs.
- Updated to add: we are extending this rule to any identifying information, name, or handle from any platform, including screenshots.
- Ask for permission before advertising anything on this sub.: Including research participants requests. For research recruitment posts, we require proof of IRB approval.
- No Spam: Nope.
- No trolling: This is not the sub for you.
- No karma farming:
- Re The Telpathy Tapes: We are pausing all posts and comments about TTT. We will not approve posts on the topic and comments will be removed until a later time. They have their own sub if you'd like to discuss their content.
