Subreddit Rules
- No Attacks on Other Users/Lost Loved Ones or Gatekeeping of Grief: Attacks: Do not attack other users on any grounds, including looks, race, religion, sexual orientation, or a person's gender.
- Gatekeeping: This subreddit's mission is to support for all types of loss, not just those of people and not just grief through death. While it is ok to recommend add'l sources of support, you may not tell them they do not belong here.
- 1 is grounds for immediate removal of the comment/post and permanent ban at the mod's discretion.
- Do not tell or imply that someone is grieving incorrectly.: We all need different things but no one needs a prescription for handling grief. If you're saying "you need to" or "you should," your comment will be removed.
- No suicidal ideation w/o clarifying a lack of intent.: While it's ok to express that you no longer wish to be here, you must be clear that you do not intend to go through with a plan or your remarks will be removed. Our fellow mourners are not emotionally equipped to support someone through such depths and many have already lost loved ones to suicide. Please join r/SuicideWatch or r/SWResources for support with suicidal ideation.
- No Self-Promotion (ex. personal blogs, songs, books, services): To protect a vulnerable community, don't post self-promotional works (ex. a video you made on how to grieve, a website you made for people in grief, your services as a grief counselor/life coach, any products you have for sale.)
- Any and all posts with links to products for sale, will be removed unless you have mod permission to post first.
- Got a resource to share? Contact the Mods for consideration in our sidebar!
- Do not offer advice if an OP or flair specifically requests that you don't.: Any comments along the lines of "you need to," "you ought to," or "you should" on these posts will be removed.
- No surveys, studies, petitions or interview requests.: Our users are often in the first throes of grief and the request for their attention/stories can feel exploitative, meaning this support sub is not an appropriate place for such requests. As grief stories & research are both valid, please consider r/samplesize for such requests.
- Don't hit on/contact people for hook ups. This is not Tinder!: If any mod is notified a user is trolling for hook up and/or a "date", they will be immediately and permanently banned.
- No hospital, hospice, death photos or photos that someone couldn't consent to: To respect our users’ triggers and the deceased’s dignity/right to consent, we ask that no photos of your loved in the hospital , attached to medical equipment or photos of dead bodies be posted.
- There are instances where such photos are all that one has (as in the case of stillbirth.) If so, you may post your photo, but you MUST use the NSFW flair to prevent possible triggering of other grieving users.
- No fundraising, requests for money, soft begging or GoFundMes.: People are here to find relief & grapple with their own grief; it is an inappropriate place for fundraising.
- First offense is a mute. Second offense is a ban.
- If discussing financial difficulties, you must make it clear that you do not wish to receive offers for assistance.
- No humorous shared content (memes, comics, etc): Our senses of humor vary widely. Please do not make light of grief through shared memes, comics, poems, image quotes, etc.; these will be removed.
- Funny first-hand stories about lost loved ones are allowed.
- No social media links or any videos (Facebook, Insta, YouTube, etc): To avoid disinformation and self-promotion, do not post or link to social media sites.
- If you feel you have a useful resource to share from one of these sites, please submit it to Modmail for possible inclusion in our wiki.
- No COVID-19 disinformation.: This sub stands with science. Keep COVID-related posts & comments grief-centered and away from suspicions, conspiracies and alternate facts.
- No AI Therapy posts: We do not condone AI for grief therapy. There are people being harmed by this type of therapy. Please do not post about it. Your post will be removed.
- Other: Spam and other reddit sitewide rules
