- No offensive, discriminatory, racist or self-harm/suicide encouragement: We will NOT tolerate any offensive, discriminatory or racist content/language, or content that encourages someone to self-harm – this will result in an automatic ban, without warning.
- Don’t direct message or ask to DM anybody (includes off-sub requests): Do not ask for advice via DM. Do not offer advice via DM. Do not invite people to DM you. Do not discuss anything via DM in any circumstance.
- The r\DWPhelp community tries to fact-check answers. This process cannot take place in a DM and risks legal issues for OPs and commenters.
- All discussion should take place within the public forum for everyone's protection and rule breakers will be banned after one warning.
- Don't ask or advise how to get away with breaking the law (benefit fraud): An intentional failure to disclose or misrepresent your situation to gain or retain benefits is a criminal offence. We do not allow any encouragement or facilitation of benefit fraud. For example, you cannot advise others that it is ‘OK’ to not declare any savings of £6,000 or more on Universal Credit because ‘the DWP will never find out’.
- All posts relating to news items are restricted to the Sunday news thread: The primary purpose of r\DWPhelp posts are for people to seek and receive help. You can ask for help about DWP, HMRC, local council benefits etc. It isn't for debating DWP policy, posting general benefit or media news. Benefit news can be shared or discussed at any time but ONLY within the stickied Sunday news update thread.
- Only post once / use an accurate title: It's fine to post different questions about the same benefit, but it’s not OK to repeatedly post the same question (the answers won't change!). You are free to post updates about past posts as long as the update is significant: if it is not, please comment within your original post.
- Inaccurate or inappropriate titles may confuse other Redditors, and this may lead to inaccurate responses. Posts that have problematic titles will be removed and you'll be asked to repost with an acceptable title.
- No spam, self-promotion or ‘paid for’ service promotion: While we understand and acknowledge the mission of genuine paid-for benefit advice services, for every one that is genuine there are ten that are scams, so for safety we do not allow the recommendation of any paid benefit advice services at all. Do not link to, solicit business for or recommend any business(es) or any paid service(s). This rule includes no spam, such as advertising other subreddits, YouTube, TikTok, referral links, MLMs, etc.
- All AmAs require mod approval and verification: We follow Reddit’s AmA rules - see r/AmA.
- If you think you could make a valuable contribution to the sub by doing an AmA please contact the mod team via modmail to summarise why you want to do an AmA.
- No AmA will be approved without verification of your credentials e.g. who you work for and in what capacity. AmAs will run for a maximum of two days and will be locked once this period has expired or at an earlier time as appropriate e.g. time constraints of the AmA host.
- No begging or requests for handouts: While we empathise with your situation, we do not allow asking for money, this is because there's no way to fairly verify your situation. We also have vulnerable members who have difficulty managing money and wouldn't hesitate to give money to their own detriment. If you DM any members of the sub asking for money you will be automatically banned. There are dedicated subs for this, such as r/Borrow and r/RandomKindness.
- Moderator discretion: The mod team may remove any post/comment at their discretion, even if it doesn't violate another rule, to maintain the quality, cohesion or order of the r\DWPhelp subreddit. For example - sharing self-identifying information (doxxing), asking about a benefit payment before it's due to be paid, election posturing etc.
- If you feel your post/comment was removed or you were banned in error (or want to appeal your ban), please contact us via modmail (https://old.reddit.com/message/compose).
- Identifying information in posts must be removed: This rule exists to protect your identity, please ensure that any identifying information such as names, addresses, GP/specialist names, etc. are removed or blanked out. We will remove any post that violates this rule.
- Don't ask about a payment the day it is due: Payments can appear up to 8pm the day it is due, for this reason we ask that you wait until the day after a payment was due before posting about it here.
- Do not recommend AI tools: AI tools often give the wrong answer or hallucinate and can result in a claim being ruined, so we have a blanket ban on recommendations for any AI tools. While AI tools can be useful, we find the general public has an overreliance on them (often using them for general Internet searches when a search engine would be both more accurate and less damaging to the environment) and we do not want to encourage this behaviour.
- This rule will be reviewed again if AI tools significantly improve.
