Subreddit Rules
- Be friendly and helpful: Remember to be kind and helpful to other members.
- Part of participating in this community is having friendly interactions with others despite differences of opinion.
- Personal insults and attacks (including homophobic and/or racist words/remarks) are not tolerated on Reddit and they won’t be tolerated here.
- Trolling is bad. Don't do it.
- Evading or harassing someone that has blocked you by using an alternate account is bad. Don't do it.
- No Fundraising: Due to the massive number of scammers on Reddit targeting animal related subs, we do not allow fundraising (Ex: GoFundMe) by individuals, charities, or any other organizations.
- No Threats/Violence: Threats or promotion of violence, whether it be towards another user or about an animal are not allowed.
- Breed Hate: Healthy conversation about breed characteristics is welcome but please keep debate and comments civil, reasonable, and factual.
- The best course of action is if you don't like a particular breed, just don't say anything.
- No Advertising or Promotion: This subreddit is not an advertising service and does not exist to promote or help develop your business. Some examples of prohibited content includes, but isn’t limited to:
- >- Promotion of personal blogs/social media.
- >- Litter advertisements/selling puppies.
- >- Books, pet sitting, toys, websites, apps, surveys, food, etc.
- >- What IS allowed is for an artist to share their work as long as they aren't soliciting commissions, tips, or farming engagement.
- Subject to moderator discretion**
- No Karma Farming: "Karma Farming" includes the following:
- - Spamming posts of funny or cute animal videos (posting one every now and then is generally fine)
- - Stealing and/or reposting pictures of other people's dogs and pretending they are yours.
- - Uploading stock images or AI generated dog images in order to accumulate Karma.
- - The one item that will definitely earn a permanent ban is the stealing/reposting of another users post about a deceased pet.
- Rehoming: Rehoming posts from individuals are not allowed. Your best and safest resources for rehoming your pet are local organizations that can screen and check potential adopters or people you know like friends and family. What IS allowed are questions on how to go about the rehoming process.
- Medical/Health Posts: Any post about health or medical questions will be closely monitored for the following:
- - The post must be set to "spoiler".
- - Posts or comments promoting false medical information will be removed.
- - You should be consulting a professional, not Reddit. Don't be surprised if you are told this.
- - Poster's should also be asking their question on subreddits such as r/AskVet
- DIY Euthanasia: r/DOG does not support “DIY” euthanasia of animals. Posts or comments asking for related information will be removed.
- Animal Abuse: Posts/comments showing animals being abused are not allowed.
- - This includes comments, pictures, and posts involving Zoophilia or Beastiality.
- No Politics: This is a dog sub, please take the politics elsewhere.
- Personally Identifiable Information (PII): Be careful about posting personal information. One of the most frequent examples is posting a picture of a dog and the owner's name, phone number, or address is visible on the dog's tags.
- Adoption Posts & Shelters: Adoption posts from shelters, rescues, and 501c’s ARE allowed but please remember:
- - Don’t use all caps/multiple emoji’s in your title/post.
- - Information goes in the post, not title.
- - Put the dog’s name, age, breed, & if fixed.
- - Put the name/location of the shelter/organization and if transport to other states is available.
- - Include a link to their adoption page in the post. Not a social media page.
- - Be sure euthanasia date hasn’t already passed. Update if the date has been extended.
- Memorial Posts: Memorial posts are allowed, but any pictures need to celebrate the life of our pets and the happy memories they’ve left us with. We also encourage the sharing of any stories about them, their favorite things, etc. (an obituary of sorts) so we can all know your friend a little better.
- Posts with pictures showing deceased animals or animals in their final moments will be removed.**
