Subreddit Rules
- Be Civil to Hosts + Guests: Critiques of the hosts and guests opinions are welcome as. Personal attack are not. When in doubt, please use the principle of charity.
- Relevance: Please keep posts on topic. People, events, etc. discussed on the podcast are welcome. As is discussion on topics related to the podcast. Currently that includes "the tech industry’s influence and manipulation of society - and interrogating the growth-at-all-costs future that tech’s elite wants to build".
- No threats, encouragement or glorification of violence.: Anything that violates Reddit's TOS is obviously a no go. But please use common sense as well.
- No bigotry.: Racism, Sexism, Transphobia, Ableism will not be tolerated.
- No self promotion: This is a Subreddit about Better Offline. Please do not make posts about your own stuff, soliciting research for your own stuff, etc. If you need an exception please reach out to me.
- Don't Post Something That Already Got Posted: Please make sure somebody hasn't already posted the article you're sharing
- No AI Slop: Don't post AI slop! This includes AI-generated content, and especially the text output from AI models. I don't care if it proves that AI is bad. Stop posting it.
- Don’t Be An Asshole: This is a seemingly-arbitrary rule, but we’ve had a good amount of people come in here with the intent to stir up trouble and be huge assholes. By all means come in and have reasonable conversations, but I will boot your ass into the Phantom Zone without a second thought. If you disagree, by all means take it up with my boss (me).
- Don't post old stuff like it's news : Pretty simple! Maybe it's the "Sam Altman says we'll just ask the AI to tell us how to get profitable," or an article from two years ago, but either way, keep it up to date unless there's a good reason (an unseen article or study for example)
- Responding "paywalled" on a paywalled article: Yeah we get it there's a paywall we get it, congrats on your observations. 24 hour ban.
- No Low Effort Posts: If you’re going to make a post that is just a question in a title, your post is gone.
- If you’re going to post a crappy meme and say “AI be like this” that post is also gone.
- If you're posting a screenshot from Twitter or Bluesky with little commentary or effort, that post is gone.
- Make an effort or don’t make the post. 7 day ban every time now.
- To be clear sharing a video or article is fine.
- No Brigading/Don't Crosspost from Pro-AI subreddits: This sub is not for brigading those we disagree with. If you want to bring attention to some argument or trend Pro-AI people are discussing please screenshot and blank out the subreddit name.
- Don’t complain that a video is a video : “Too audio visual didn’t watch”? I’m banning you for 24 hours
- No Karma Farming: If you are coming here to post something EPIC and COOL that's just a single screenshot or a crosspost and you haven't been posting here regularly, that's a permanent ban. This isn't a place for you to earn points.
