Subreddit Rules
- Who can participate here: * Because this is a support group for the loved ones of abusive pwBPD, those who have not been abused by a pwBPD cannot participate here. * People diagnosed with BPD or another Cluster B personality disorder (NPD, ASPD, or HPD) cannot participate here, even if they are dealing with an abusive pwBPD in their own lives -- and even if they do not currently meet DSM criteria for having a full-blown disorder. * Also excluded are undiagnosed people who strongly believe they have a Cluster B disorder.
- No sexism, racism, homophobia, or bigotry: * Conjectures about any of the above causing or contributing to BPD are not allowed.
- MGTOW, Female Dating Strategy, Red Pill, or Incel content is permitted. Do not engage with another member who introduces such content. Instead, report their submission to the mods. * We welcome people from all walks of life, all genders, and all gender identities.
- No references to BPD related subs:
- references to posts or individuals from r/BPD or similar subs that are intended to serve pwBPD. Do not mention any of these subs.
- content of any kind that has been authored by a pwBPD, or is from the perspective of a pwBPD, unless it was written by the pwBPD in your private life.
- engaging with individuals who are pwBPD. Doing so makes our space less safe because it encourages more pwBPD to respond.
- No bullying, rude, or invalidating behavior: * Be supportive and kind to members who are healing from their abusers. Because they may not be at your stage in the healing process, it is important to interact with them at their stage of healing, not yours. * RUN! is not an acceptable response unless you also provide a brief explanation for the need to do so. * Do not project your black-white view of a subject onto the OP -- e.g., when you believe the chance of a relationship succeeding is very low, do not claim that it is certain to fail.
- PII and throwaway accounts:
- personally identifiable information (PII) like real names or links to real profiles
- media recordings or images of people. * Videos of domestic abuse must be cross posted from a major social media platform (e.g., TikTok or YouTube). They will be removed if posted natively on Reddit. Participant faces must be blurred throughout a video. * If you use a throwaway account, provide mods with your primary and alternate usernames, if asked
- using an alternate account to evade a sub ban.
- No experts: * Do not ask for a diagnosis. Only a professional can determine whether BPD behaviors are so strong and persistent as to constitute full-blown, lifetime BPD. * You do not have to be a psychologist, however, to spot BPD symptoms. This is why mental health centers describe BPD warning signs on their public websites. It thus is fine to ask whether certain behaviors are warning signs for BPD. * If you work or volunteer in the mental health field, do not state that here. We cannot verify such claims.
- Discord, group chats, and meetups: * We do not host an official Discord group for our sub because, many times a day, it is invaded by abusive people who harass our members until we remove them. In a Discord, however, we would be unable to protect members from this harassment because we would be unable to censor them in real-time. * Do not create posts or comments requesting a chat or meetup, either online or offline (in real life), with another Redditor. If you want to talk with someone, PM them directly, outside of our sub.
- No promotion, advertising, or monetization: * Do not post links to your work or to GoFundMe accounts. This is not the place to display or promote your new book, podcast, or YouTube creation, even if it is topically relevant. * Amazon links must be in the format of: https://www.amazon.com/dp/unique_numerical_identifier_here. If there is a `?` in your link, its format is incorrect.
- No research requests: * For the safety of our members, we do not approve any requests for interviews, surveys, or research. Do not post such requests, email addresses, or links to online form builders like Wufoo and Google Forms.
- No stereotypes or nonsensical BPD traits: * Asking about human behaviors not specified in the DSM is not encouraged. Posts asking about generally odd behaviors -- or overgeneralizing about the behavior of all pwBPD -- will be removed. * The broad demonization or dehumanization of any pwBPD also is prohibited. We are not a hate group toward every pwBPD on Earth. * Although pwBPD share many common traits, each of us is dealing with an individual experience. The focus in this sub therefore should be on supporting your individual needs.
- Acceptable content: * Content must be on-topic and in English
- posts about poems, songs, celebrities, politics, religion, or fictional BPD characters. * If you share third-party content, refer to reputable sources like licensed mental health professionals or people with an MS or PhD in psychology
- text from an AI app or content promoting toxic behaviors against anyone. * "No Contact" content must go into the Daily NC Thread. * Do not mention or respond to any member of this sub whom you know personally.
- No talk of killing yourself: * If you think you may hurt yourself or others, call your local emergency services: 911, 999, 112, etc. Also, post in [/r/SuicideWatch](https://www.reddit.com/r/SuicideWatch) or use [this online chat](https://suicidepreventionlifeline.org/chat/) and use zip code 10001. * If you are in crisis (suicidal or not) and you work with a therapist, contact him/her. It is considered appropriate to contact them in a crisis. Most will try to talk with you on the phone and/or get you an urgent appointment.
- No being rude or argumentative with mods: * Our goal is to provide our members with a compassionate, safe space to heal from their trauma and abuse. * All grievances, requests, or issues must be addressed by [messaging the moderators](https://reddit.com/message/compose?to=/r/BPDlovedones), not by messaging an individual mod. Also, do not post your grievance on our public forum. * If you disagree with something we have done, please tell us calmly and rationally. Getting hostile and argumentative may result in an immediate perma-ban.
