r/AutismInWomen PUBLIC

A community for autistic woman/marginalized genders. We discuss the struggles, triumphs, and mundane life events that come with our autistic experience. LGBTQIA+ inclusive; no cis-men, no TERFS. We welcome women/marginalized genders who're self-suspecting, self-diagnosed, or formally diagnosed autistic (regardless of age), as we recognize the barriers around formal diagnosis and assessment. Please engage kindly, read our Rules and Wiki pages, and modmail if you have any questions <3

Subreddit Rules
  1. Follow Reddit Rules. (NO CALLOUT POSTS): All users must follow Reddit’s Site Rules at all times; you are responsible for reading and understanding it. Do not call out other users or other subs as this may cause community interference (which is against Reddit’s Rules).
  2. If you break this rule you will get a mandatory 1+ day ban (length will be at moderator discretion). We take Reddit Rules VERY seriously here and this is NOT a drama subreddit; this is a peer support sub for autism
  3. https://www.redditinc.com/policies/content-policy
  4. Be kind, supportive, and respectful.: Do not insult one another. Keep discussions and debates civil and respectful.
  5. No gatekeeping or invalidation.: As per
  6. #3: This is an inclusive community; no one's personal world experience should be invalidated.
  7. Do not invalidate or negate the experiences of others, *regardless of topic or situation.* This applies to topics outside of diagnosis status.
  8. Self-diagnosis is valid. Do not accuse other members of the sub of faking traits. Don't invalidate those who have self-diagnosed after intense research and self-reflection.
  9. Everyone is NOT 'a little autistic'.
  10. No discrimination, judgement, bigotry, or ableism.
  11. homophobic, transphobic, racist, or sexist comments will be tolerated. Do not perpetuate negative stereotypes of autism or autistic traits.
  12. Read the subreddit description. Anyone that is not a cis man is welcome here. You do not have the right to tell others they shouldn’t be here.
  13. Do not ask others if you're 'crazy', 'weird', 'insane' or other terms that invite judgement, fuel stigmas, or perpetuate the false belief that autists are broken or disabled persons are less-than others.
  14. No trolling, bullying, or harassment.: Any trolling, bullying, or harassment will result in a ban. If someone has sent you a private message that is threatening or harassing in response to a post or comment you made in this sub, please take a screenshot, report the content to Reddit, block the user, and message the mods.
  15. No use of derogatory language or slurs.: The use of slurs, such as the r-slur, f-slur, or other offensive language may result in a ban.
  16. Do not refer to women as 'females' unless correctly using it as an adjective. Using 'females' as a noun implies inferiority or contempt. Misogynists use language to undercut a woman’s worth by lowering her to only her reproductive abilities, and not distinguishing her from other animals, thereby removing her humanity. Let's not normalize speech that categorizes women as less-than-equal.
  17. We are unable to provide diagnoses or medical advice.: We can't give diagnoses or medical advice. You can discuss medications, treatments, and therapies YOU have tried, however you are not to give medical advice or armchair diagnoses.
  18. We can't tell if you or someone else is autistic, decipher medical evaluations, say if diagnosis is warranted/worth it, find practitioners in your location.
  19. Don't discuss if IRL person is autistic, ask if something is 'an autistic thing', post long lists of traits or 'symptoms' asking for feedback.
  20. This is not a sounding board for non-autists and/or cis men.: Posts and comments from **non-autists** and **cis men** will be removed under this rule and bans will be given at mod discretion. This simply isn’t your space.
  21. Any posts from cis men/non-autists asking for advice on how to manage, control, fix, handle, or manipulate autistic persons will be removed.
  22. You are not their therapist, we are not all-knowing, and we are not a monolith.
  23. Content Guidelines: Post/comment length limit is 3200 characters, equal to a 1 page essay. This is so users are more likely to read/respond, and so mods can read through filtered/reported content which takes time. Do not try to circumventing this.
  24. Text images are limited to 5; memes limited to 7.
  25. Use paragraph breaks
  26. Do not re-post removed content
  27. Do not ask others for pictures
  28. Vents are locked automatically
  29. Use the proper flairs, tags, and TW when posting. Spoiler text with '>! content here !<'
  30. No Prohibited Content.: Prohibited content e.g: ABA, suicidal intent, SA of minors, homicidal ideation, non-stim self-harm, AITA, friendship seeking, debates, contentious topics, asking to be saved/convinced, AI and ChatGPT discussions or promoting it's use as 'therapy', politics, etc.
  31. Moderators will remove any content deemed too heavy, trauma dumping, irrelevant (posts only focused on other conditions with no reference to ASD), or more appropriate for another sub.
  32. Direct links to X/IG/FB/TikTok will be removed.
  33. No FAQ Posts: Do not post frequently asked questions that are easily searchable using our search bar, answered by our FAQ wiki page, or in our sub's rules.
  34. E.G. "Is self-diagnosis valid?", "Am I allowed to participate/welcome here?", "Why do I see downvotes?", "What jobs are best for us?", "What NC earphones are the best?", "How do I make friends", "What should I bring to my assessment", "What are pros and cons of diagnosis?", etc.
  35. FAQ: https://www.reddit.com/r/AutismInWomen/wiki/frequentlyaskedquestions
  36. Any research participant requests must be submitted to mods for approval.: We will NOT be reviewing any research requests at this time.
  37. Do not post or modmail research requests, as we will not respond to modmails during these times.
  38. Our sub members are not a free resource for your work, school, etc.
  39. soliciting, crowd-funding, selling, self-promotion, advertising, market research, recruitment, book/article research, product research, research for personal/business use, homework projects, projects for university, marketing posts, aspiring writers looking for feedback, or recruiting members for any organization or group (subs, discords, support groups, etc.).
  40. Do not direct users to your YT, blog, or other content outside of Reddit.
  41. No posts centered on politics or political figures: Posts where politics are incidental to your personal life and experiences are allowed, but the focus should be on you, not the politics. Posts that are centered around political events, political figures, or political debates like a news report are not allowed as they can detract from the environment of the subreddit as a whole. This is a peer support group for autism, not a political news report subreddit.
  42. No content requesting or addressing mod actions - use modmail.: Content stating 'remove if not allowed', 'delete if breaks rules', or similar phrases will be removed.
  43. Inquiries, questions, and any matters concerning moderation of the sub must be modmailed directly to the mods using the modmail link.
  44. Content addressing mods or containing rule-lawyering or backseat-moderation (e.g. telling people to use certain terms over others) will be removed. Do not repost removed content.
