Welcome to /r/australianshepherd. All Aussies are welcome. **Since Mini American Shepherds are now recognized as their own breed, it is requested that all MAS, minis or toys are posted in subs for those breeds/mixes.** If you adopted a dog through a shelter or rescue group that you believe is an aussie or part aussie, you are welcome to share here. In an effort to support responsible breeding practices, purchased designer mixes (eg. aussiedoodles & TX heelers) should also be posted elsewhere.

Subreddit Rules
  1. Mini or toy aussies: As per the australian shepherd parent club, there are no size variations in this breed, and those who are claimed to be mini or toy sized are not part of the breed. We choose to support ASCA in this. This sub is only for australian shepherds.
  2. Post must be aussie related: Posts must included something that is obviously related to aussies, which would included photos of aussies or discussion of aussies health, training or care. Posts that have nothing obviously aussie-related will be removed.
  3. Breeders must provide proof of health clearances: If you would like to share any information or photos of dogs you have bred, please PM proof of health clearances to modmail. This is in an effort to only support those who are reputable breeders. If you are not able to provide at proof of at least the minimum suggested thru ASCA, the post will be removed.
  4. This sub supports science based training methods.: This sub supports science based training methods which use rewards, build confidence, and foster a positive relationship. Posts and comments supporting the use of dominance theory (disproven) or harsh corrections will be removed.
  5. Puppies must be older than 8 weeks of age.: Posts showing puppies below the age of 8 weeks will be removed.
  6. Intentionally bred mixed breeds (i.e. doodles, border aussies, texas heelers, etc.): We welcome aussie mixes of all kinds *from rescue/shelter organizations.* However, as our stance is to support responsible, ethical breeding practices, we kindly ask that mixes acquired from other sources be shared elsewhere.
  7. This sub is not for breed guessing.: We cannot tell based on photos what breed or mix your dog may be and if it is a purebred aussie or not. There are other suitable subs for breed guessing if you wish to do that.
  8. No medical advice.: This sub is not a replacement for professional vet care. Medical advice is not permitted. Moral support for health issues is permitted.
  9. No breeder request posts.: Breeder recommendations are carefully monitored by the mods and posts requesting breeder recommendations are generally not permitted. We're finding too often people end up recommending breeders that are not reputable, even puppy mills.
