Subreddit Rules
  1. Be nice to one another: /r/ADHDUK is a subreddit to support those of us with ADHD. It's a place for people to express themselves, their successes, and their struggles.
  2. hate speech.
  3. Be considerate to others - many here are finding things difficult.
  4. Remember the human on the other side.
  5. Discussion of ADHD matters in the United Kingdom only...but we allow your general memes too.: /r/ADHDUK, as the name suggests, is dedicated only to ADHD in the United Kingdom. Stay on topic - make sure your post is about ADHD in the United Kingdom, and is in English
  6. UK-related content only (England, Scotland, Wales, Northern Ireland).
  7. Non-ADHD content should be kept to a minimum.
  8. No Ableism: Ableism towards others is strictly prohibited and carries a zero-tolerance policy. We are committed to maintaining a safe space for the ADHD community, and discriminating, devaluing, or dismissing the lived experiences of others will result in immediate action.
  9. Ableism applies even if it's not intentional, and can often stem from unconscious bias, like holding unintentional stereotypes about what a person "should" be able to do.
  10. Ex: - Benefits discourse - "You people can't do anything" - Etc
  11. Don't ask what to say to your doctor or in your assessment or forms - Be honest!: We cannot tolerate queries about how to secure a diagnosis. If you genuinely believe you have ADHD, the best you can do is:
  12. Tell the truth.
  13. Explain your difficulties and how they relate to the diagnostic criteria.
  14. Provide as much evidence as possible, such as school reports.
  15. Reddit is not a doctor - your specialist will know best: This should go without saying, but nobody here can say for sure whether you have ADHD or not. We are a safe space for those that are self-diagnosed, but we encourage anybody who suspects they have ADHD to try and get a diagnosis.
  16. Don't ask if you could have ADHD (or any other condition).
  17. Be considerate of those that are self-diagnosed.
  18. Seeking and giving medical advice can be unsafe. Sharing experiences is okay, but remember that only a medical professional can give you the best advice.
  19. Don't debate a diagnosis, or tell others you don't think they have ADHD (or you think they might!): We are not medical professionals conducting an assessment - leave assessing whether someone has ADHD to the ADHD assessment. It is not appropriate for you or anyone else to examine or question a diagnosis, or anyone seeking a diagnosis, nor is it appropriate to provide an "armchair diagnosis". If anyone would like to have their diagnosis questioned by random people on the internet, then they must make that explicitly clear. If they haven’t requested this, kindly keep your opinions to yourself.
  20. Spreading misinformation and/or stigma: Please do not contribute to the spread of misinformation or stigma, which can be harmful or misleading if taken as fact. Remember to check your facts before posting.
  21. No discussing illicit and illegal use of ADHD medication: We do not tolerate discussion of any kind on the illicit or illegal use of ADHD medication.
  22. This includes topics such as: taking ADHD medication without prescription, taking different quantities to those prescribed, and queries on how to buy or sell ADHD medication without legal prescription.
  23. ADHD is a heavily stigmatised condition. Don't fuel the stigma. And don't allow this important community to be wrongly associated with illegal behaviours that we do not support.
  24. No promoting pseudoscience and alternative medicine: Do not promote alternative treatments for ADHD that are known to have little efficacy (herbal medicines, unlicensed drugs, and supplements).
  25. Discussing personal experience is ok, promotion is not.
  26. EXAMPLES:**
  27. I self medicate with cannabis / Lions Mane / Supplement X, it helps me cope - ALLOWED
  28. Cannabis / Lions Mane / Supplement X is a legitimate ADHD medication - NOT ALLOWED
  29. You should try Cannabis / Lions Mane / Supplement X, it helped me so it might help you! - NOT ALLOWED
  30. Do not try to sell, purchase or acquire ADHD medication from other users. This is illegal.: Asking other users (either publicly in the subreddit, or privately via DMs) if you can purchase or otherwise acquire ADHD medications from them will result in a ban. The same goes for offering or selling ADHD medications to other users.
  31. When linking to other sites, check the value, credibility, and intentions of the author and content.: It is important to give accurate and up to date information that is relevant to ADHD and the UK. For example, we do not appreciate TikTok videos ''promoting'' ADHD diagnoses that have little relevancy to ADHD itself.
  32. No advertising or self-promotion : Advertising products and/or services is not allowed. There's a difference between promoting or bringing awareness to a service, and blatantly advertising a particular clinic or organisation. Ultimately, moderator discretion will be used.
  33. This extends to podcasts, communities, vlogs, self-promotion of your own businesses (ADHD coaching, apps, etc), and crowdfunding.
  34. If you're unsure, it's best to contact the moderators to check and we will make the decision whether it's safe for the community.
  35. Academic/Journalistic research (including surveys) requires prior moderator approval.: For the protection of our community, we cannot allow research participation requests or the soliciting of sources without prior approval from moderators.
  36. We are the national sub & not affiliated with the charity 'ADHD UK' or any charity or organisation.: For your own clarity and certainty: we are not affiliated with the charity ADHD UK. It's important to stress this, as they are a regulated, registered UK charity, so it's best to avoid confusion.
  37. We value the work of ADHD UK, ADHD Aware, and the ADHD Foundation, and encourage you to check them out. We will only promote services and charities we are confident are accurate and acting in good faith.
